Scharbeutz and Sierksdorf were one of the first beaches in Germany to be awarded the "Lifeguarded Beach" accolade in June 2008. This award is conferred by the International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE) to cities and communities that have subjected their beaches and bathing areas to a risk assessment and taken the necessary steps to make them safe.
Internationally-certified experts from the European organisation last year checked the eleven-kilometre stretch of beach between Scharbeutz and Sierksdorf and evaluated it in detail. Potential dangers such as the pier, the groyne, water currents, sandbanks and the dip, as well as the geographical profile of the area and the distance between rescue equipment were all factored into the check. The experts came to the conclusion that our beach has excellent safety and rescue equipment as well as material to prevent accidents and for rescue and first aid intervention.
So with this in mind, enjoy safe bathing with us in the Baltic Sea!
