Scharbeutz is changing

Scharbeutz is being rejuvenated and is looking forward to its new appearance. Regular visitors and first-time visitors are already being inspired by the modern, maritime holiday atmosphere created by the newly-designed pier area and the promenade walkway that meanders through the dunes. A wander along the gently-curving promenade that gives onto the sea has a brand new dimension of quality thanks to the conversion work. On 12th October 2009, the green light was given for the 5th stage of construction between the Fischerstieg and the Lindenallee. By June 2010, around 60 employees from BeckerBau will be working on the improvement of this 570-metre-long section of building work. As a result, the gently-curving Strandallee will also be extended with a three-metre-wide multi-functional promenade suitable for cyclists, inline skaters and pedal cars. It will also be opened up to 4 metres in width, starting from the Timmendorf beach, and the "Rote Platz" will be redesigned. The tourist heart of this 5th stage of construction is an elevated wooden walkway that starts at the Fischerstieg and continues for 630 metres (including three new beach access points) in the middle of the dunes to the Lindenallee.

Coastal defences

Coastal defences in Scharbeutz

In Scharbeutz and Haffkrug, coastal defences are one of the region's most important and future-focused construction projects. That's because climate change is placing the emphasis more and more on protecting the coast against storm floods and erosion. In 2007, a new coastal defence wall and a newly-designed promenade were built in Haffkrug. In the spring of 2008, work began in Scharbeutz on construction projects and a coastal defence wall was built in the dunes.
